“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13)
In today’s vernacular, “gird up the loins” would be “Pull up your pants and tighten your belt. It means get ready, be prepared and stand up to what is happening.
“Gird up the loins of your mind, be sober”. Awake! Be conscious, cognizant and aware! And finally-Hope!
To “hope” is to put all trust and faith in Jesus Christ. “To the end” is a reference of our life span here on earth. All the while that we occupy this planet we should have an unwavering love and devotion to Christ. Jesus told us that we will have trial and tribulations on this earth. But He also said, “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” (Revelations 2:7).
“The grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ”. Grace, God’s gift to us that is freely given to those that will freely and openly accept it. It can not be earned, just received. Grace is God’s love (Jesus), empowerment and salvation all bundled up into one big gift for each of us. It is “brought” unto each of us when our eyes open to Jesus and accept Him as our Savior.
We live our life in the hope of Jesus Christ. We move forward in clear mind and absolute devotion in Him for He has been revealed to us and in us. One day Christ will be realized in full presence, body and power. Until then we will rest in the hope and complete faith of His coming.
