Thanksgiving! What immediately comes to mind when you think of Thanksgiving? Is it turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce and pecan pie? Maybe it is parades or football games? Or better yet, Thanksgiving the day before Black Friday!
Or is it, Thanksgiving; giving thanks to God for his name sake and Grace?
In keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving we have listed below several Bible passages with the word Thanksgiving in it. These verses from both the Old Testament and New Testament will help give a fuller understanding of why we celebrate the day.
Thanksgiving in the Bible
“And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the Lord, offer it at your own will.” Leviticus 22:29
“I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.” Psalms 116:17

“For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:15
“Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God” 2 Corinthians 9:10-12
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” Colossians 2:6-9
“Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving” Colossians 4:2
“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” 1 Timothy 4:1-5
“Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 7:12
