“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
Man tends to live his life as if it will never end. He thinks in terms of the here and now, responding to what hurts most or feels the best. Man is caught up in the fury of the day, not looking into eternity. The here and now occupies his full efforts and attentions. Days are expendable while in pursuit of solving problems or satisfying wants and needs. Man adopts the attitude of, “If it’s meant to be then it’s up to me”, seizing each day, chasing after dreams or solving his dread.
“Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me” (excerpt from Isaiah 47:10).
God, “so teach us to number our days”. Allow us to understand that our time here on earth is brief.
“Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” (James 4:14).
In numbering our days we place value on those days. Realizing our time is limited we put stock in the time we have. We must, “apply our hearts unto wisdom“. We must apply our heart and spirit to the one true wisdom, Jesus Christ.
“Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength” (Proverbs 8:14).
Our time is limited here on earth but we will live on past this time. Eternity awaits us all. But what we do and what we become here on earth will determine where we will spend eternity. Number your days on this planet, make sound use of the time. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (excerpted from 2 Corinthians 6:2). Number your days. Count each a blessing from the Lord. Take full advantage of the opportunity God presents to each of us. Apply your hearts (spirit) to wisdom (Jesus) and live!
So teach us to number our days
