Being Spiritual

Being Spiritual

The first question that needs to be asked whenever anyone says that they are “spiritual” is “Yes, but what spirit”? This usually stumps and confuses the “spiritual” one or they lay claim to some inner, personal supernatural presence that they “feel”.

But many say, “I am spiritual. I see God in a sunrise, the stars, in a beautiful mountain range or in a flower”. They are right. God designed it that way. God made it so that He would be seen, felt and in a word, evident to all of humanity within His creations. But this is to reach the most base of fellows. What is being interpreted as some deep spiritual meaning in God’s creation is actually His most obvious presentation of Himself.

Aware of God

All of humanity is aware of God. There hasn’t been a single culture that did not worship or have some deity(s) they laid claim too. Why? Because they see the heavens and earth, plants and animals, oceans and mountains and know that only a supreme being could manifest all things so wondrous. They may not know the one true God Jehovah who created it all but they certainly know there is some higher power.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard” (Psalm 19:1-3).

It is by design that God speaks to us in all of His creations. The problem occurs when man interprets the creation as God instead of evidence of God.

“He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.” (Jeremiah 10:12)

Carnal man cannot see past the creation to the creator. Carnal man sees all things emanating from self so he attempts to rationalize the creation within the confines of his knowledge. Becoming vain in his imaginations and foolish in heart his thoughts and beliefs darken. Professing himself to be wise man becomes nothing but a fool.

Man can’t see God because he is short sighted. He is not, “able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God” (Ephesians 3:18-19). Man cannot see this or know this because he has restricted himself to a view of himself and the world around him. He fails to realize that not only is he looking at a creation of God but that he himself is part and parcel of that creation!

Why is carnal man so shortsighted? Because the “god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Man instinctively knows God for he was created by a single breath from Him. God has, “possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb” (Psalms 139:13) and God has put His, “law in their inward parts”, and write it in their hearts” (Jeremiah 31:33). Man knows God!

But it is a darkened heart, a blinded eye and a closed mind that has concocted a theory that the heavens and earth, plants and animals, oceans and mountains all came by chance.

Man is a three part being. He is body, soul and spirit. God is a three part being. He is the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. Man knows God not only because God made him but His spirit is within him. It is only through a corrupted body and mind is the spirit dampened.

christ spiritual“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
