Righteous. “When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked”. Proverbs 11:10-11
The power of prayer by the people of God benefits everyone. These verses from Proverb 11 exemplifies what the Apostle James said, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”.(James 5:16)
“When it goeth well with the righteous” and when we have “The blessing of the upright” good happens to the land. We gain favor of God and the nation benefits.
“That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.” (Deuteronomy 11:14-15)
Prayer and coming to God in obedience and faith uplifts and strengthens not just self but the nation as well. Here’s a great example of praying for a city and the benefit gained.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.” Psalms 122:6-7
We have to understand what happens when we allow God into our lives. We have to understand that God is the source of our prayers. And when we pray to God we put his wishes into motion.
“And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.” (Isaiah 51:16)
“A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.” (Proverbs 13:2-3)
The righteous unleash the power of God through prayer. The benefit and blessing is for all including the land. “But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.”
We learn in Proverbs 18:21 that, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
The wicked, literally defined as the Godless and full of sin can destroy self, surroundings and state.
“Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. Leviticus 18:26-28
The righteous speak life through prayer. The wicked speak atrocities and cause ruination.
