“Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.” (Psalm 90:3)
The sinful man is on the road and the path to destruction. A sinful man is a man without Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This mans’ road is a dead end and he doesn’t even know it. Life altering turmoil awaits.
But it is these life events that work as wake up calls to the reality of this world. Death and destruction are the benefits of this present life. Having to face this inevitable works as a wake-up call to the man of this world. This is when we begin to hear the call from God. The call of salvation and the need to repent.
To repent is nothing more than to return to God. Our original condition is with our Lord. Our unnatural state of being is sin filled. God has been calling all of us back ever since Adam and Eve allowed sin into the skin. Traumatic life events are usually the catalyst that opens our eyes and ears to Him.
But a literal translation of, “Thou turnest man to destruction” shows quite a different meaning. The phrase translates to, “Thou return mankind to dust”. This is our physical destination. God created man out of dust and to dust we all shall return.
Then God says, “Return, ye children of men”. This is speaking of nothing other than the resurrection of all that are in Him. To the day that all shall be resurrected and returned to God in spirit and in truth to face the final judgment with Him.
Now we come full circle. Did we repent of our sins before we met our final destruction on earth? Or did we continue on our self-destruct path of sin and iniquity? We will have to answer for all when resurrected and facing God. It is here that we face the final and absolute destruction or not.
“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-15)
God is pleading, “Return, ye children of men”. Don’t you think now is the time that you do so?
