“Quench not the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:19)
Quench or stifle not the spirit, the Holy Spirit of God. How could man do that? How could he repress and suppress the spirit? There is only one way and that is through sin.
The natural state of the Holy Spirit in man is to be alive and active. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:16)
It is a guide and a helpmate. “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26)
The Holy Spirit is the bridge of communication to God himself. Our prayers are heard and answered via the Spirit.
Stifle the Holy Spirit and all of those things start to go away. Sin and its ways will supplant the Holy Spirit and His ways.
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2). Without God and His Spirit there is only left sin and its ways.
Conversely if you feed the Spirit it shall grow and strengthen you.
“If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:15-17, 26)
“Quench not the Spirit”, for it is God alive inside of you.
