Prayer can be a funny thing. We pray for answers, resolution and comfort. Sometimes when we pray none of those things occur. So we keep on praying. Even still, the object of our desires seems to be never addressed or resolved. Why? What is the point in praying if what we pray for never happens?
“Troubles are sent to teach us to pray; and are continued, to teach us to continue instant in prayer. Though God accepts the prayer of faith, yet he does not always give what is asked for: as he sometimes grants in wrath, so he sometimes denies in love.” (Matthew Henry)
We have to remember what prayer first and foremost is. It is a direct communication with God. If the content of our prayers isn’t being addressed then maybe we should rethink and re-address the content of our prayers. God is interested in you. He loves you! Are you interested in Him? Do you love God? Do your prayers reflect that love and interest? Or are your prayers nothing more than a series of requests strung together?
“Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:4-5)
Prayer is dialogue. Have a talk with God not at God. You will find your life changing when you add you to your prayers. Talk to God about your thoughts and feelings. Ask God about righteousness and about right and wrong. Address God for who he is, the Father of all, creator and originator of all things seen and unseen. Realizing who God is puts things (and us) in their proper perspective.
Establishing a relationship with God changes everything. Prayer life becomes not a part of our life but rather becomes life itself. We move, breathe and have our being in God 24/7. This is what He wants. It is tapping into the full power and glory of our Lord and Savior.
Prayer life is life. Once we are in God and God is in us we discover a new life of love, joy, peace and happiness in all situations. What once was a desire and goal may just fade away. All things are new. The only time grief and angst returns is when we return back to the world. But there is no limit to prayer.
Sometimes God will withhold and deny our prayer request in an effort to get us to expand our prayers and our prayer life. We may be praying incorrectly, praying too small, or God is in the process of letting you grow in and grow up in prayer. In any case scenario we are to keep praying. When we don’t know what to do or pray for, that’s when we really need to pray.
Have a talk with God-Pray!
