“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4)
This is very strong language. It says that whosoever is regenerated or born of God not only overcomes the world but literally conquers it. It is our faith in the Lord and His promises and nothing else that allows us to conquer and defeat the wiles, worries and turmoil of the world.
Faith is an absolute. Faith in God has no room for someone who holds faith in the world. If there is but a glimmer of the world within ourselves then God cannot reside within us. A person maintaining the light of the world and still professing faith in God is a person with a fanciful ideal of faith rather than a true faith in God. Too many Christians have been misled with idealism or a contrived belief system that is dependent upon their life within the world system. The love of the world is too great for them.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:15-16)
Faith in God causes us to bend and break. It’s how we rid ourselves of the world that has grown over us. Those willing to do so are formed and fashioned into the image of the son of God. But we must be willing to bend and break and conform to faith and God. Both of which are a constant and change and alter for nothing. This bears repeating. Neither faith nor God are changeable. They are constants. There are no exceptions and exceptions are not made for anyone under any circumstance. If we are to have faith in God then we must modify our self to fit within that faith and God. It is the mold of perfection so we should expect some alterations and pains.
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
We are children of God. We have conquered them, those that are of the world. We have conquered the world itself. We have done so by “taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” (Ephesians 6:16-18)
It is God within and faith in God that has allowed us to overcome and conquer the world. But defeating the world is not the object or the prize. The world has been the hindrance that once removed allows us the promises of the Lord.
To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. (Revelation 2:7)
“He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.” (Revelation 2:11)
To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.(Revelation 2:17)
“And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star.” (Revelation 2:26-28)
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” (Revelations 3:5)
“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” (Revelation 3:12)
“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” (Revelation 3:21)
To him of faith overcomes the world and is born of God.
