“The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18)
We know that if you, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you” (James 4:8). But it must be in truth, God’s truth for He is truth. Our call to God must be free of our sin and rid of our self. Truth clears out the barriers of sin that separates us from God. When we move forward in God’s truth He will move forward towards us.
The world knows neither God nor the truth. Pilate, who represented the worldly government looked Jesus Christ in the face and asked, “What is truth?” (John 18:38). The world and its ways are blind to the truth. Man has adopted the ways of the world.
It is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:18). It is impossible for man not to. Like God, truth is perpetual and unalterable. To draw close to God we must call to Him not of this world, not of the natural but of the supernatural. Truth is not of this world nor is it natural for sinful man.
But notice that the call to God is open and available to “ALL” that call in truth. In other words there is no restriction as to who calls, just as long as it is in truth.
To define truth is like trying to define God but we can describe it. Truth is perpetual, consistent, never altering, full of fidelity and probity, integrity and righteousness. Truth is of God, by God and is God.
The Lord is close to those who call him in truth. We do this by removing barriers to the truth which is our sin and pride. To do this we must humble ourselves in the presence of the Lord. Now we get to the core reason why man resists the truth so much. Carnal man by his very nature does not want to relinquish his sins nor does he react well to submission. Carnal man will do everything in his power to avoid these things. Consequently the truth of God alludes him and any possibility of a relationship with God ceases. Don’t let this be you.
Call to God in truth and the Lord will come nigh.
