“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God” (Romans 5:1-2)
Isn’t it interesting that to have peace with God hints to the fact that we first did not. More than hints it shows our true color. We weren’t at peace with God before Jesus Christ. We were angry, rebellious and obstinate. Oh, we may have thought or believed that we were at peace or had some inner sanctity of rectitude somewhere hidden inside that gave us some calm, some equilibrium.
But peace with God can only come through Jesus Christ. By definition Jesus Christ is peace and goodwill to mankind. When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, Christ then becomes our covering, the final sacrifice for the atonement of mankind. But for us to be justified by Him, or render righteous through Him we must have absolute faith in Him.
Being justified and rendered righteous in the presence of God our sins are forgiven. Sin is gone, guilt for that sin is gone, anger and rebellion are gone for there is nothing to rebel against.
Nothing is done by us but rather everything is done for us. Jesus paid the price on the cross. We are to just have faith in Him and all is forgiven. Now we can have peace, that inner tranquility of soul that comes from our relationship with Him.
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified” (Galatians 2:16).
It is this same faith that renders us righteous in the presence of God that offers us access to His grace. Grace is a condition, a state of being. Receiving the grace of God is His power that enables. Whatever situation or ordeal we may encounter the grace of God is the shield and power that gives us our righteous stand, our power and authority. Like being covered by Christ and atoned for our sins, our faith gives us access to the covering of God’s grace poured all over us to enable and empower us through this life and its toils and troubles.
We stand, we rejoice, we hope in faith in the glory and wonder of God. It is our unbeatable power in God through Christ and power of grace from God through Him to us.
