Hurricane Matthew

Hurricane Matthew

There are many, many mathematical/computer forecast modeling systems, usually referred to as “spaghetti models” that are used by governments and agencies around the world to predict where a hurricane is headed. These models are continuously updated with new information so their projections change on an on-going basis.

Here’s a partial list of the many different systems that are employed when projecting the path of a hurricane. Here is the United States we have the National Hurricane Center. Canada has the Canadian Hurricane Centre. Some of the modeling systems used include the European Medium Range Forecast Model (ECMWF), the Global Forecast System (GFS), the Navy Global Environmental Model (NAVGEM) and the Weather and Research Forecast Model (WRF).

The power and capabilities of these modeling systems is tremendous. For example, to improve its forecasting capabilities after Hurricane Sandy the National Weather Service, “purchased new supercomputers, increasing processing power from 776 teraflops to 5.78 petaflops” Source Wikipedia. A petaflop is the “ability of a computer to do one quadrillion floating point operations per second” Source Webopedia.

But here is the reality of the situation. All the major superpower countries in the world have hurricane tracking and forecasting capabilities. Information is being fed into and regurgitated back out of at the speed of light by the greatest super computers ever.

What does all of this add up to? Absolutely nothing. The only sure information we have is where the storm has been and not where it is going.

Jesus Christ said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Christ is the way. He is our forecast model. It is the only true and reliable forecast model man has.

Jesus said that, “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). There’s our tracking map! Jesus has gone ahead of us to prepare a place.

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know” (John 14:3-4).

How about that. Not only is Jesus our only accurate forecast and tracking map, He is also our FEMA for when He comes back to deliver us from the storm of this life.

Unlike the world’s greatest supercomputers, the way of Jesus is true. He is our future path and permanent residence. Unlike a hurricane that leaves death and destruction, Jesus brings life!

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

The world’s greatest countries and the world’s greatest supercomputers can not accurately and predictably forecast the way of a storm. Only Jesus Christ can accurately and predictably lead us to love, joy and peace. Only Jesus can lead us home!
