“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13).
“For it is God” could and should begin every statement for surely all things are of Him and by Him. The English translation of “worketh” is a fascinating word. It comes from the Greek word, “energeo”. It is where we get the word energy from. So the phrase, “For it is God which worketh” literally means for it is God that gives you the power. In this case it is the power and where withal to want to do or desire and the energy to do God’s good pleasure and wish for you.
God is operative within us at all times via the Holy Ghost. The Spirit gives us the idea to do for God and the energy to complete the thought. Getting baptized and committing our lives to Christ are examples of the Holy Spirit operating within us, giving us ideas and most of all the energy and ability to carry out the notion.
The only negative force at play here is our self. When we do not act on the idea and do not perform the given ability to do for God then it is us that are putting on the brakes. Why? Why would we do that? As Flip Wilson, the famous 70’s TV show comedian use to say, “The devil made me do that”.
The devil is very real and very active in this world and in our lives.
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8).
If God has given you a notion then he will give you the ability and capability to perform that notion, then why wouldn’t you carry it out? What has stopped you? There’s only one answer of course and that is the devil.
Now we will have all sorts of “legitimate” excuses as to why you couldn’t/wouldn’t carry out the notion. Lack of time, don’t know how, too afraid and the list goes on and on. The fact is that the only thing that stopped you is the devil.
God is working inside all of us. He’s looking for people who will work outside for Him. Just remember that any idea or notion God gives you He has perfectly qualified you for the job. Doubt comes from the devil. Doing is of the Lord. What God gives you to do, Go! Do!
God Working Within You!
