“But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14)
God’s chosen people
First it was God’s chosen people the Israelites, Moses and the law. Then, according to God’s design, purpose and plan it became everyone through Jesus Christ and His gospel message.
We have been chosen to salvation. In other words, It is God’s choice for us, all of us to be saved. But our salvation is predicated on becoming holy and pure. Although we cannot do this on our own, God gave his only Son to be the Savior of the world. We become sanctified, separated, chosen and of the elect only through Jesus Christ who is perfect.
Only when we are in Christ and Christ in us, covered in the blood of Jesus, then and only then are we made presentable to God. The only way to the Father is through (and in) His Son Jesus Christ.
In the old days of the law, sacrifices were made as atonement, a covering for sin. Jesus Christ was the last sacrifice, the final covering and atonement for those that believe on Him. We believe in Christ by hearing, learning and responding to His word, the gospel message, the good news of salvation tht is being offered to everyone.
But not everyone will have their spirit quickened and respond favorably to the call. Some choose to turn away, close their eyes and eyes and harden their heart to the love and outpouring of the Son of God. Why? It is because some choose to respond to the call of the devil. The devil will rationalize, reason and play upon the lust of man and his desires.
God asks us to have virtue for today and patience for the promise of tomorrow.
The devil promises nothing more than to satisfy the carnal drive and desire of the moment. He continues to do so until the man is eaten up and dead. The devil permits all, reasons all and enables all.
With God we are made whole, complete. His promise through Christ is love, eternal life, truth, peace and joy. It is a relationship and joint venture.
The devil is like a cigarette. Smoking a cigarette satisfies a craving for now but does not end the addiction. Smoking causes death, disease and destruction. It ruins lives. The person craving a cigarette will justify their addiction to the world around them. Cigarettes will change a person’s life and lifestyle to suit the carnal need and addiction.
There is no difference between smoking and cigarettes and sin and the devil. They both are dead end streets.
Glory and goodwill to God always! We thank Him for His perfect plan of salvation for all of mankind. To the Jew first then through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and His gospel call to salvation.
