Thank God Without Ceasing

“That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory. For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:12-13)

God called us to His kingdom and glory. His word quickened the spirit within us and brought it to an active life. It is the spirit within us that motivated and caused each person to respond to the call of the Father. It is for this cause, the call and our response to it that we are to thank God continuously and without ceasing for it is our salvation unto eternal life and perfection.

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).

The Apostle Paul to whom the verses are attributed to goes on to say, “when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth”. The word of God did not originate from man. Man can only repeat, discern and explain it as best as he can. Some people cannot look past the preacher, the man. They receive the word of God as if it was a philosophy or precept of a man. This reduces the truth to a worldly level where all things are malleable, changeable, disposable and removable.

God’s word is the only truth. It is perfect and unchangeable. It works within man shining light on sin and iniquity, enabling him to overcome, empowering him against evil and enabling man with discernment, equity, judgment and justice. God within is energy and power. It is an energy and power that will manifest itself in the everyday actions, thoughts and speech of man.

To those who believe in God and have received Jesus Christ in their heart will be changed from carnal man to a spiritual being. All things are new.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (1 Corinthians 5:17).

God’s word works within us with energy and purpose. The light within now shines on the way of the Lord. We have direction and with that direction comes hope. Tomorrow is real. The kingdom is real. Our salvation is real. But the temporal things of this present life take on a lesser signification. We now know all things temporal such as this world, our bodies and this present life shall fade away and be no more. What we once valued most pales in comparison to perfection and eternity through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

It is for this cause that we thank God without ceasing.
