The Fallacy Of Using Crusades To Compare Christians With Muslims

To those who are trying to compare 1400 years of Muslim terrorism to the crusades in some feeble attempt to equalize Islam and the Muslim faith with Christianity. First off, why is it with some people that when you mention the Muslim horrors that we are witnessing today, the war, beheadings, ethnic cleansing, the killing of men, women, children and babies, the invasion of homes and churches, kidnappings and on and on and on, when you mention any of these Muslim horrors, why is it that some people immediately bring up the crusades? What does one event have to do with the other? Why bring up the crusades which occurred and ended almost 1,000 years ago and compare it to something happening right now?

Crusades

But here is the most relevant issue when someone attempts to compare Islam and the Muslim faith to Christianity by using the crusades as their reasoning. The issue is this, ignorance. It is ignorance of the crusades, of Christianity, of the Bible and the ongoing turmoil created by the Muslim faith for the past 1400 years.

The Crusades were military campaigns first sanctioned by Pope Urban of the Roman Catholic Church in 1095. This had nothing to do with Christianity, the Bible, God or Jesus. The Crusades were a very much misguided effort by a man-The Pope and Catholicism. It was also a display of greed and attempted power grab by some aristocrats. Nowhere in the Bible are crusades advocated.

But the Bible does say God is Love. Jesus did say love God and your neighbor as yourself. The Bible does say that without love we are nothing. The Bible does say that without love we are nothing more than, “sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal”.

The crusades were not the Christian crusades they were the Catholic crusades. The crusades were not divinely ordained by God they were an earthly, human manmade creation; a mix of religious and carnal desire. For some it was a money and land grab. For others it was a paying job for the Vatican paid its warriors to fight.

“A key difference between the Crusades and other holy wars was that the authorization to carry out these wars came directly from the pope, who claimed to be working on behalf of Christ.” Source: Wikipedia.

But it must also be pointed out that the crusades were in reaction at least in part to the Muslim conquests. And in all fairness, no discussion of the crusades is complete without a discussion of the Muslim conquests which span from 623 through to the 1050’s and beyond.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”

Obviously this is not a complete discussion of the crusades, the Catholic Church, the Muslim conquest or Islam. But it is intended for you to know some of the pertinent facts you don’t hear discussed. Most importantly it is intended for you to read the Bible, all of the Bible, so you will know the truth about Christianity.

In Hosea 4:6 God says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. But God continues with “Because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

We must learn and know otherwise the devil will control and win.
