I Go The Way Of All The Earth

I Go The Way Of All The Earth

When Joshua grew old and decrepit he told the people of Israel, “I am going the way of all the earth” (Joshua 23:14).

Likewise, when King David grew old approaching death he spoke to his son Solomon saying, “I go the way of all the earth” (1 Kings 2:2)

Presidents and paupers, Kings and crooks, everyone eventually will, “Go the way of the earth”.

Our time on this planet is temporary. The Lord God “formed man of the dust of the ground” (Genesis 2:7) and “all turn to dust again.” (Ecclesiastes 3:20)

Most commentators and Ministers put “going the way of all the earth” in context of man’s eventuality, his demise. But we have to take it a step further.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10)

This is the end of the world, Armageddon, Apocalypse scenario that seems to be weighing heavy on everyone’s mind these days. Now let’s take it all to the conclusion.

“And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14)

The earth is gone, heaven and hell are gone. Life and death as we know it are gone! So what is left?

Let’s go back to what King David instructed the new king, his son Solomon in 1 Kings 2. David said to keep the charge of God and to walk in his ways, in truth with all their heart so that you may prosper. David also said in so doing the Lord may “continue his word”.

The “truth”, the “way” and the “word” are all Jesus Christ.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6

“In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

And the promise to everyone is life forever after:

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

If we accept Jesus as our Savior then, ”shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:34)

The world is coming to an end. Our physical bodies are coming to an end. But if we accept Jesus as our Savior then life eternal will be spent in the Kingdom of God. It’s our choice.
